Carla prepares a student group to do Little Lumpty. She has read the book, Little Lumpty, about an egg that falls off a wall. The children are challenged to build an egg catcher to keep the egg, Lumpty, from breaking as it falls to the floor.

Students work diligently at constructing an egg catcher for Little Lumpty.

The final test is to determine if the egg catcher catches Little Lumpty the egg, and keeps it from breaking. This activity is a good example of design technology in which the children in groups build egg catchers, test them, then suggest redesigns.

Here students investigate the properties of leaves-color, size, shape, venation, petioles or not, lobes, etc.

More leaves to study.

Children learn how to make leaf prints.

Carla’s class displays a whole class leaf print collage.
Our hats are off to these 3rd grade scientists in action. We appreciate them sharing their inquiry projects with us. Thanks Carla and Kids!!!
